16th January 2026, the China Europe Centre for Cultural Innovation (CECCI) undertook a field visit to explore emerging cultural sectors in the digital era, visiting a range of representative companies in Hangzhou, which included the LGD Esports Centre (Light Theatre), leading digital content studio Mediastorm, and the “Shuqiwang” AI-plus industrial community, offering first-hand insight into the city’s growing strength in esports tourism, digital content creation and artificial-intelligence-driven entrepreneurship.

At the LGD Esports Centre, CECCI focused on the operation and management of a professional e-sports venue. Centre representatives outlined their approach to tournament organisation, fans engagement and e-sports related consumer markets, highlighting the sector’s commercial potential and its ability to build highly cohesive communities. Discussions also covered venue diversification and possible future collaboration around events and competitions.

The team then visited Mediastorm, a well-known company in the world’s digital content sector. Company executives introduced a highly decentralised creative and management structure, explaining the end-to-end production process from concept development to final output. Attention was also drawn to the firm’s advanced technical facilities and its strategy of expanding multiple business lines around core intellectual property, illustrating a talent-driven model of digital content production.

The final stop was “Shuqiwang”, an AI-focused industrial community designed to support digital nomads and early-stage entrepreneurs. Beyond shared working spaces, the site offers an integrated support system covering policy liaison, financing, technical services and community building, providing a practical reference for nurturing future convergence between culture and technology.
In recent years, emerging sectors such as esports, short video and AI-generated content have increasingly reshaped cultural production and consumption, driven by advanced technologies and younger audiences. CECCI said it will continue to track innovative developments and promote cross-sector, international dialogue, contributing to deeper integration between the cultural industries and digital technology.
