6th  February 2026

To promote friendly exchanges between Chinese and international youth and help overseas students gain a deeper understanding of Hangzhou’s spirit of scientific and technological innovation and urban charm, on February 5th, the International Students’ Spring Festival Technology Experience Camp was successfully held in Binjiang District, Hangzhou. The event was hosted by the China Europe Centre for Cultural Innovation (CECCI), and co-organized by the Alibaba Global Cross-Border Industry Base, Hangzhou Innovation Institute of Beihang University, Dongxin International Community, and CECCI.

Focusing on the theme of “Technology Study, Industry Visits, and Cultural Experience” , the programme attracted more than 100 international students from institutions including Hangzhou Dianzi University, China Jiliang University, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, Communication University of Zhejiang, and Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade. Through an immersive format, the event comprehensively showcased Hangzhou’s strengths in the digital economy, advanced manufacturing, and international development.

The first stop of the programme was the Alibaba Global Cross-Border Industry Base. Guided by park staff, the students explored Alibaba’s latest practices in cross-border e-commerce, digital trade, and global supply chains. The visit allowed participants to clearly perceive Hangzhou’s innovation momentum and development potential as one of China’s leading digital-economy cities.

The group then visited the Hangzhou Innovation Institute of Beihang University. Through accessible English briefings by staff from the institute and CECCI, students gained a direct understanding of the institute’s positioning, research directions, and representative achievements. Many expressed admiration for China’s progress in high-end manufacturing, intelligent systems, and applied research.

The Spring Festival cultural exchange session further enriched the experience. In collaboration with the Dongxin International Community, CECCI organized a series of traditional New Year activities, including writing the Chinese character “Fu,” making intangible cultural heritage lacquer fans, and cutting paper decorations. Students also joined community volunteers in making dumplings and sharing the festive atmosphere. These hands-on activities enabled participants to experience the artistic charm of Chinese calligraphy, craftsmanship, and folk culture in a relaxed and engaging setting. During the talent-show segment, ZULU, an international student from China Jiliang University, performed his own song Iced Tea, highlighting the creativity and youthful vitality of international students within a multicultural environment.

To further enhance interaction, CECCI designed a number of fun group activities such as “Ping-Pong Challenge,” “Musical Chairs,” and “Body Language Relay.” Bryson Xue, Chairman of the CECCI, enthusiastically hosted the session, energizing the atmosphere and encouraging broad participation. Laughter and applause filled the venue as students actively engaged with one another, many expressing their hope to take part in more CECCI programmes in the future.

By integrating technological visits, cultural experience, artistic expression, and interactive exchange, the event enabled international students spending the Spring Festival in Hangzhou to gain a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese festive culture while strengthening connections between Chinese and international youth. The programme vividly embodied the spirit of mutual understanding and friendship through cultural exchange.

The camp not only enriched international students’ learning experiences in Hangzhou, but also enhanced their sense of belonging to the city, injecting new momentum into university-local cooperation, cultural integration, and the gathering of global youth talent.
