On the afternoon of 10th August 2025 (local time), the International Performing Arts Connection Conference, an important component of the 2025 Asia–Europe Culture & Arts Development Forum, was successfully held at St Leonard’s Hall in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Focusing on Asia–Europe performing arts collaboration and production partnerships, the conference featured keynote speeches, project showcases, and performance demonstrations, providing an efficient and practical platform for global artistic institutions to connect, exchange ideas, and explore cross-cultural cooperation.
The event brought together representatives from 13 performing arts organisations and production companies from Germany, Australia, China, the United Kingdom, Italy, and other countries. Leading enterprises such as Aurora Nova (Germany), Parrot Ox Circus (Australia), Dafeng Culture (China), and Higher Link (China) delivered presentations, engaging in in-depth exchanges on international theatre operation, production introduction strategies, and original work promotion, while sharing cutting-edge insights and innovative models.
During the performance showcase, the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s original dance drama The Pure Blue presented selected excerpts, interpreting the essence of Chinese aesthetics through a contemporary stage language, and drawing considerable attention from attendees. In addition, nine outstanding international productions from the UK, Italy, Australia, and other countries were also presented, with the aim of exploring opportunities to bring their diverse works to Chinese audiences.
In her closing remarks, Lezley Cameron, Deputy Lord Provost of Edinburgh, highly commended the outcomes of the conference. She noted that the event had established an effective link for Asia–Europe cultural and artistic exchange, and expressed her hope that such gatherings could be held annually in Edinburgh, gradually developing into a globally influential brand event. The conference not only showcased a high-calibre and diverse artistic celebration, but also built a dynamic platform for Asia–Europe performing arts collaboration, injecting new momentum into cross-cultural dialogue and industrial synergy.

Bryson Xue, Head of the China Europe Centre for Cultural Innovation (CECCI), remarked that the conference represented an important step towards the institutionalisation of Asia–Europe cultural and artistic cooperation. He affirmed that similar initiatives would continue to be advanced to create a powerful engine for Sino–European industrial collaboration and cultural exchange. Angela Kwon, Founder of the Korea Season at the Edinburgh Festival, highlighted the tremendous potential of interregional cooperation, expressing her commitment to making the Korea Season a bridge connecting East Asian and European cultural markets. Parel, a representative from Aurora Nova, a renowned German production company, praised the vitality and openness of the Chinese performing arts market, expressing eagerness to introduce more high-quality international productions to China through new collaborative frameworks, achieving a win–win outcome for artistic value and market success.
The successful hosting of the International Performing Arts Connection Conference not only presented a world-class and multicultural artistic showcase, but also injected fresh impetus into Asia–Europe project collaboration, resource sharing, and market connectivity, marking a new, pragmatic, and efficient phase in Asia–Europe cultural and artistic cooperation.
