On 7 March 2025, Li Min, Leader of the Qiantang District Committee, Jin Chiyu, Second-level Research Officer, and Ms.Shen Dixiao, Director of International Operations at Edinburgh Napier University, UK, visited the Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade for an exchange. Chen Dequan, President of Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade, met with the guests and attended the discussion session. Heads and faculty representatives from the School of Cooperative Economics, School of Creative Design, School of Digitally Intelligent Accounting and Finance, School of Precise Intelligent Manufacturing, School of Digital Trade, School of Food and Health, School of Business Intelligence, the Office of Academic Affairs, and the Centre for International Exchange and Cooperation participated in the meeting, along with Bryson Xue, Head of the Higher Link International Innovation Centre, and student representatives from the UK Winter Study Camp Programme.

Chen Dequan extended a warm welcome to the visiting guests and introduced the university’s overall development and its current progress in educational internationalisation. He emphasised that education serves as a bridge to foster international friendship and mutual understanding, and that educational cooperation has always been an important link in China–UK bilateral relations. He expressed the hope that, under the guidance of the Qiantang District Committee, the two universities would adopt an industry-oriented approach, focus on the upgrading of global industrial chains, continuously expand areas of collaboration and deepen the substance of cooperation, strengthen international partnerships integrating industry, academia and education, and effectively support students’ growth and success, thereby injecting new momentum into the internationalisation of education for both sides.

Shen Dixiao expressed her gratitude for the university’s warm reception and gave a brief introduction to Edinburgh Napier University’s history, academic structure, curriculum design, and international collaboration programmes. She noted that both institutions share a common vision in cultivating practically oriented talent, and that their educational partnership will focus on developing internationally minded, application-oriented professionals with strong language proficiency and practical skills, jointly opening a new chapter in China–UK educational cooperation.

At the meeting, Bryson Xue introduced the progress of the “ZJIET–HLIIC”, a joint initiative between the university and industry, and gave a summary of the Edinburgh Winter Study Camp Programme. Li Min and Jin Chiyu, leaders of the Qiantang District Committee, presented Certificates of Cultural Communication Activity to the outstanding participants of the study camp, commending the students for actively promoting traditional Chinese culture and positively representing the image of both Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade and Qiantang District during the programme.

During the session, participants also held discussions on topics such as student exchange programmes and faculty visits for teaching and research. Shen Dixiao delivered a presentation titled “A Comparison of Culture and University Education Between China and UK ”. More than 110 students from various schools across the university took part in the event.
