Recently, a delegation team from the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), led by Nie Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of the Academy, visited the United Kingdom and France. During the visit, the delegation carried out a series of academic exchange activities, released its concepts for future drama creation and performance, and presented its vision for international cooperation. Collaborating with international festivals and renowned art universities, Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) aims to build a global network for artistic creation, co-development, joint construction, and mutual connection.

The original dance drama The Pure Blue participated in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which was one of the key purposes of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) delegation’s visit to the United Kingdom. Written and directed by Zhou Bei, Deputy Dean of the College of Dance at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, the production was supported by the Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation and the Shanghai International Dance Centre Development Foundation, and was selected and recommended by the China Shanghai International Arts Festival to be featured in the official “Focus on China” section of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Echoing the Festival’s theme “Dare to Discover”, the production staged three theatre performances and four flash-mob shows during its time in the UK, receiving an enthusiastic response from audiences. The production was highly praised in reports by major media outlets such as the State Council Information Office, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency International Channel, Xinhua Net, Dragon TV, and Phoenix TV. It was also rated a four-star performance by mainstream British media.

In Edinburgh, the College of Dance of the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA), in collaboration with the China–Europe Centre for Cultural Innovation (CECCI) and other organisations, hosted the 2025 Asia–Europe Culture & Arts Development Forum. Nearly hundreds of representatives from over 20 countries engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics such as international cultural and artistic exchange and its future development, market mechanisms for Asia–Europe cultural cooperation, and trends in cross-cultural artistic innovation. Zhou Bei delivered a keynote speech, while producer Zou Rui and young performer Dong Han gave live demonstrations.
During the forum, Nie Wei, together with representatives from the Edinburgh City Council, the University of Edinburgh, and other institutions, jointly unveiled the “Arts Practice Base (Edinburgh)”.
