The China Europe Centre for Cultural Innovation (CECCI) and the School of Journalism and Communication at Henan University unveiled an AI + International Communication Collaborative Laboratory on 16 June 2026, marking a new stage in cooperation between the two sides.
The unveiling ceremony and international communication seminar were held in Room C303 of the North Building of Youlan Academy at Henan University.
CECCI Chairman Bryson Xue and Council Member Jiaying Liang attended the event at the invitation of Henan University. Also present were Pengfei Wang, dean of the School of Journalism and Communication; Hongbo Gao and Jianghao Li, deputy deans of the school; Jinping Zhang, director of the office of the National Journalism and Communication Experimental Teaching Centre; and faculty representatives. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Dean Jianghao Li.

In his opening remarks, Pengfei Wang welcomed the CECCI delegation and introduced the school’s current development and strategic plans. He said international communication was a key priority for the school as it seeks to serve national priorities and broaden its educational outlook.
He said he hoped the laboratory would make breakthroughs in academic research, talent development and the application of research outcomes, while helping to address existing gaps and bringing new momentum to the discipline’s development both in China and overseas.
Bryson Xue reviewed the strong foundation of earlier cooperation between the two sides and outlined CECCI’s work across its three core areas: culture, education and innovation.
He also shared plans for an international communication conference, international cultural research, the launch of an academic journal, and the establishment of an AI + International Communication Collaborative Research Centre. He presented the technical framework of the AI + International Communication model.
Bryson Xue said CECCI was willing to use high-quality international exchange activities as a bridge to promote cross-cultural academic dialogue and support the innovative application of artificial intelligence in the field of communication.

During the discussion session, the two sides exchanged views on topics including regional international communication, communication empowerment, and innovation in local cooperation models.
Both sides agreed that the core of international communication lies in telling local cultural stories well. They said they would draw on their respective strengths to deepen practical cooperation in platform building, joint research and talent development.
The cooperation is expected to inject fresh vitality into the development of Central Plains culture and the international communication of city images, while helping to present a true, multidimensional and comprehensive picture of regional development.
At the end of the meeting, Pengfei Wang and Bryson Xue jointly unveiled the AI + International Communication Collaborative Laboratory and took a group photograph with all attendees.

The ceremony and seminar represented an important step by CECCI and Henan University to deepen industry–education integration and explore collaborative innovation in international communication. It also signalled that cooperation between the two sides had entered a more institutionalised and substantive stage.
The laboratory will closely respond to the latest needs of the industry, strengthen practical teaching, support discipline development through collaborative innovation, and open broader channels for Central Plains culture to reach international audiences.
CECCI will also take this opportunity to continue promoting cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world, strengthen international communication capacity, and contribute expertise and resources to building a global dialogue platform based on diversity and mutual learning.
Later the same day, Bryson Xue was invited to host Bloom, the showcase performance for Henan University’s Fourth Student Culture and Arts Festival and the Art of Broadcasting and Hosting programme, as an outstanding alumnus of the programme. The event highlighted the deep links between CECCI and Henan University in talent development, and further demonstrated the strong momentum of continued cooperation in the field of cultural communication.
