2026 "Qiantang Cup" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Global Youth: Top 100 Shortlist Revealed as Preliminary Rounds Conclude

After strict review and qualification verification by the organizing committee of the “Qiantang Cup” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Global Youth has successfully concluded. During this preliminary round, the organizing committee received application materials from over 200 contestants from 18 universities both within and outside Zhejiang Province, representing more than 20 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Greece, Morocco, Thailand etc.. Based on the competition regulations and rigorous selection, a total of 103 contestants were finally evaluated and qualified to advance to the semi-finals. The list of qualified contestants is as follows (in no particular order) :



The Organizing Committee of the “Qiantang Cup” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Global Youth extends its sincere congratulations to the above-mentioned advancing contestants and heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement! Contestants who did not advance will receive a Certificate of Participation. The Organizing Committee will contact contestants from each university shortly to send the certificates.
The arrangements for the Competition’s Semi-Finals are as follows :
1. Date and Venue of the Semi-Finals
The Semi-Finals will be held from Wednesday, March 25, 2026, to Thursday, March 26, 2026, across two venues: the Qiantang District, Hangzhou – China Jiliang University Division, and the Binjiang District, Hangzhou – Zhejiang Vocational College of Commerce Division :
Day 1 (March 25): 12:30–17:00 and 17:00–20:00 at China Jiliang University [No. 258 Xueyuan Street, Qiantang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province] ;
Day 2 (March 26): 12:30–17:00 at Zhejiang Vocational College of Commerce [No. 470 Binwen Road, Binjiang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province] .
Specific session arrangements will be communicated individually to the instructor from each participating institution. Advancing contestants are requested to carefully verify their assigned session and arrive at the designated venue 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time for check-in and participation. Failure to check in on time will be regarded as forfeiture of the qualification to advance .
2. Format and Segments of the Semi-Finals
The Semi-Finals will comprehensively assess contestants’ integrated Chinese application skills and stage presence, comprising three segments :
(1) Self-Introduction and Topic Presentation: Time limit: 120 seconds. Contestants must first give a brief self-introduction. Twenty minutes prior to taking the stage, they will draw a specified topic, which they must present by integrating their understanding of the topic with their personal experiences (the self-introduction and topic presentation may be delivered as a combined presentation) .
(2) Talent Showcase: Time limit: 90 seconds. Contestants may showcase their vocal, instrumental, dance, artistic language, or other performance abilities, demonstrating skills in voice, language, movement, and expressiveness .
If props are needed, contestants must provide them. If background audio or video is required, it must be sent to the Competition’s official email address, qiantangcup@outlook.com, by 3:00 PM on Monday, March 23. Audio files must be in MP3 format, and video files must be in MP4 format with a resolution of 1920*1080.
(3) Chinese Q&A: Time limit: 90 seconds. Judges will ask one or two random questions in Chinese, and contestants must respond entirely in Chinese .
3. Scoring and Advancement Rules
The Semi-Finals will feature a panel of five expert judges who will score contestants’ performances in each segment. The final score for each contestant will be calculated by removing the highest and lowest scores and averaging the remaining three**, ensuring fairness and impartiality. Based on the overall scores from both Semi-Final sessions, the top 30 contestants will advance to the Training Camp and the Semifinals. Non-advancing contestants will receive a Certificate for the Semi-Finals and have the opportunity to participate in the performance segment of the Finals.
The Top 100 have assembled, poised for action. We look forward to seeing the contestants shine in the Semi-Finals, showcasing the beauty of the Chinese language and the charm of its culture!
