What is Au Pair?
The term "Au Pair" originates from French, meaning "on par" or "reciprocal," reflecting a spirit of mutual exchange and equality. As a cultural exchange programme popular in European and American countries, the au pair initiative has a history spanning over a century. It is designed for young adults aged 18 to 30 who wish to learn a foreign language and immerse themselves in another culture by living with a host family as one of its members. Their primary responsibilities include childcare, language teaching, cultural sharing, and assisting with light household duties. In return, the host family provides room and board, while also ensuring the Au Pair has sufficient time to study the local language and culture.
