On 7th March 2025, the Hangzhou Qiantang District Chinese and Foreign Vocational Education Exchange and Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade – Edinburgh Napier University International Cooperation Symposium was successfully held at Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade.
The symposium was attended by Chen Dequan, President of Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade; Li Min, Leader of the Hangzhou Qiantang District Committee; Jin Chiyu, Secretary-General of the Hangzhou Qiantang Area China Vocational Education Association; Shen Dixiao, Director of International Operations at Edinburgh Napier University, United Kingdom; and Bryson Xue, Head of the Higher Link International Innovation Centre.
During the symposium, Shen Dixiao gave a brief introduction to the history, academic structure, curriculum design, and international cooperation programmes of Edinburgh Napier University, and delivered a presentation on “A Comparison of Chinese and UK Culture and University Education.”
Chen Dequan gave a detailed overview of the overall development and its progress in the educational internationalisation of Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade. He emphasised that education serves as a bridge for enhancing international friendship and mutual understanding, and that educational cooperation has always been an important link in China–UK bilateral relations. He expressed the hope that the two universities would adopt an industry-oriented approach, focus on the upgrading of global industrial chains, continuously expand areas of collaboration, deepen the substance of cooperation, and strengthen international partnerships integrating industry, academia and education, so as to support student growth and inject new impetus into the internationalisation of education on both sides.
Bryson Xue introduced the progress of the jointly established “ZJIET-HLIIC” and provided a comprehensive summary of the Edinburgh Winter Study Camp Programme. Supported by the Hangzhou Qiantang Area China Vocational Education Association Skilled Personal Overseas Training Base (The United Kingdom) and the ZJIET Overseas Training Teaching Base for Students(UK), the programme attracted more than 50 international participants from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. Student representatives shared their personal experiences and insights from the study camp in Edinburgh, vividly recounting the knowledge gained and the practical benefits of cross-cultural exchange.
This symposium not only established an effective communication platform between Zhejiang Institute of Economics and Trade and Edinburgh Napier University, but also laid a solid foundation for Hangzhou’s Qiantang District to further deepen international cooperation, advance joint talent cultivation, and promote the coordinated development of Chinese and Foreign Vocational Education.
